"Discussing and debating intimate, and sometimes frivolous, subjects."

Anything from where I ate dinner last night to the eyeliner I'm currently favouring.

Coffee and Cocktails With Currys

In my house we like coffee. But that’s where the easy cohabiting ends. How we like our coffee divides us into two camps; the half who can be arsed to grind beans every morning and actually knows how to use the new scary coffee machine, and the half who quite likes it when sweet, creamy lattes come out of a pod and is still lamenting the death of our old Dolce Gusto machine. One of us prefers Nero, gets their order “extra hot, extra shot” and is a total coffee-snob, and the other likes Starbucks. Because syrup. I’m the...

NE1 Fashion Futures 2015

Last week saw some major names in fashion flock to the North East to celebrate the regions evolving sense of style. Still slightly tainted by the Geordie Shore image, Newcastle has been fighting back for some time now in an attempt to show that not all who live on the banks of the Tyne are of that ilk. The Fashion Futures event at the Baltic is new for 2015 and replaces Newcastle Fashion Week as the annual showcase for home-grown talent, rising stars and local stylists and designers that the north east can be proud of. Vogue editor...

Harvesting Brunch At OCC

A lazy brunch is my favourite perk of having a day off. If it’s a work day I’m shoving hastily scrambled eggs in my face at 7am to fill me up til my lunch break, but on a free day I tend to just grab a mug of coffee when I first wake up and then get on with things. The downside of skipping breakfast is that lunch then feels eons away so the increasingly popular breakfast/lunch hybrid is exactly what the blogger ordered. Places that offer a good coffee and a good brunch are on every street corner in London and Singapore but...

Boa Vista Beaches (With Bumble And Bumble)

Summer is so close I can almost smell it. But that could be because I’ve just fallen off a plane from the Cape Verde islands, all tanned, relaxed and only slightly burnt. You know how it is; you get invited to book some last minute flights to a West African paradise and can’t say no so instead you bankrupt yourself for the foreseeable future. Sometimes you’ve just got to take the opportunities life hands you, right? And, FYI, the island of Boa Vista is beaut. Note how picture-heavy this post is. I couldn’t whittle it...

Saturday Style

Although I like to keep an eye on the trends and what’s currently going in and out of fashion my personal style is probably more plain and I’m drawn to classic pieces. This is largely because I’m not made of money and my priorities are generally 1. Food, 2. Travelling to places that aren’t England and then 3. Inanimate objects like clothes, home furnishings, bags, beauty products etc. Bottom of the list. So when I’m buying a new item for my wardrobe I have to make sure it’ll go with pretty much anything else...

The Botanist – Newcastle

I’ve now been to The Botanist in Newcastle A LOT. From their first opening night in December, through their big swanky launch party in January and more recently, as a place that already feels at home on the Newcastle restaurant scene. I’ve taken some time and recovered from all the celebratory prosecco, the cocktail masterclasses, ale tasting lessons and one-too-many free bar hangovers and now, NOW, I’m going to fill you all in. Y’see I wanted to wait until it had all calmed a little. Until the bustle around those...

Recharging by the Sea

Sometimes you just need to spend a weekend being yourself. That sounds weird but we’re so many different people all the time without even trying. We’re loving girlfriends, thoughtful daughters, good employees, colleagues, friends, tenants, sisters, step-mothers, agony aunts and shoulders to cry on… and that’s not a bad thing. It’s healthy but it’s also healthy to occasionally pare that back a bit, pick one and indulge. Spending a week away with your significant other and just being the loving girlfriend for...

What’s In My Bag? The 2015 Edition

The sheer amount of junk I carry around with me on a daily basis is BONKERS. The combined weight of things I’ve decided are so ‘essential’ to everyday life that I’ll risk serious shoulder injury by lugging them around from point A to point B in my bag every single day is just not sensible. Every so often I’ll have a good clear out of course. By which I mean I’ll take it all out, sigh a bit, throw away a few receipts and the odd button and essentially put everything else back in again. I figured it’s...

Blogging From Bed

Project New House has been somewhat derailed by my irresponsible attitude towards money and my urge to travel to places far, far away. No sooner have I returned from Singapore and I’m booking last minute flights to disappear off to Boa Vista with the girls in a couple of weeks. This does mean that funds are a little low at the moment for the renovations but at least we now have most of the house liveable and two rooms totally finished. So, without too much waffle and any further ado, allow me to take you on a mini tour of our master...

Underwhere?

One might consider this to be a bit of an intimate post but I’m merely documenting progression as it happens. You see, times are changing. Or, to be more specific, lingerie is. The days of the tacky La Senza/Ann Summers monstrosities are over. And I’ve been following the new trend with interest… Welcome to the year of the barely-there lingerie. We’re doing away with the safety net that is padding, the unattractive but practical tshirt bra and the stiff lace and layers. Underwiring schmunderwiring. The current trend...
